Around The Garden In July

Clear algae, blanket weeds, and debris from ponds, and keep them topped up.

Give the lawn a quick-acting summer feed, especially if you didn’t give it a spring feed.

Check your plants every day. Water them first thing in the morning or in the evening to reduce water loss.

Hang sticky traps in the greenhouse to catch flying pests.

Top Tip:
Tidy up fallen leaves and flowers to discourage the spread of fungal disease.

This Month's Key Tips
  • Apply a high potash fertiliser once fruit starts to form on peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
  • Cut back growth in hanging baskets to revive the display.
  • Protect any developing fruit from birds and squirrels by placing netting around your plants.
  • Tidy up fallen leaves and flowers to discourage the spread of fungal disease.
  • Look after your aphid eaters! Ladybirds, hoverflies and lacewings feed on greenfly and blackfly. It's worth protecting them.
